Cambridge Science Festival, the first of its kind in the United States, an annual celebration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). CSF began in 2007 with the support of MIT, Harvard, the City of Cambridge and attracted an estimated 15,000 visitors. Now, 15 years later, it attract more than 100,000 visitors annually

An immersive experience interactive experience with hopes in fostering diversity, inclusivity and bridging the STEM gender gap.

Is systemic discrimination perpetuated by ChatGPT and other open generative AI sources? Join us for “Guess the Resume,” where two resumes generated by ChatGPT with the same prompt except for the fact that one was generated for a man and one for a woman.
This interactive activity is based off of the 2014 Amazon used an AI recruiting software, trained on the data of applications of employees hired the past 10 years at amazon. The existing pool of Amazon software engineers is overwhelmingly male, and as a result the recruiting software downgraded resumes that included the word “women’s.” They scrapped the software after a year of using it.
The Whitehead Institute
The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a non-profit research institute committed to enhancing human health through fundamental biomedical research. Established as a financially independent entity separate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), its 19 members all possess faculty appointments in either the MIT Department of Biology or the MIT Department of Bioengineering.

We’ll have the opportunity to meet with graduate student Mikala Capage, explore her research, and participate in various engaging activities as well as view the Lehmann lab, and talk to 2 posdocs and Dr. Jordana Bloom and Dr. Danielle Tomasello.
